Precision, craftsmanship and technical skill were on full display as Wilson Talent Center students participated in the Michigan Industrial & Technology Education Society’s (MITES) Annual Student Competition and Convention.

Students in Wilson Talent Center’s Precision Machining program submitted a variety of machining projects to the statewide competition, where every participating student earned recognition for their work. Several projects also received top regional and state placements, highlighting the high level of talent and dedication demonstrated by students throughout the program.

The competition provides students with opportunities to apply real-world manufacturing and machining skills while showcasing their ability to work with industry-level tools, measurements and production standards. Projects are evaluated on precision, quality, craftsmanship and technical accuracy.

Career and technical education programs like Precision Machining help students build hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing pathways that continue to play an important role in Michigan’s workforce. According to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, careers in manufacturing and skilled trades remain among the state’s high-demand industries.

Wilson Talent Center offers career and technical education opportunities that allow students to gain industry-relevant skills, certifications and hands-on learning experiences while preparing for college, careers and the workforce.

The MITES competition also gives students the chance to connect with peers and professionals from across the state while celebrating innovation, technical achievement and career-focused learning.

For students in the Precision Machining program, the event represented more than awards and ribbons — it reflected hours of focus, problem-solving, creativity and dedication to mastering highly specialized skills.
