What happens when students have the space to think big, try new things, and collaborate with industry leaders?
At the Wilson Talent Center, those opportunities are built into the experience—literally.
Earlier this month, the Construction Trades program welcomed members of HBA Lansing (Home Builders Association of Greater Lansing) for a behind-the-scenes tour and networking night. Visitors had the chance to see student work up close inside the program’s lab space, meet instructors, and talk shop over pizza. For students, it was a powerful chance to see their training in action—and to begin building real relationships with professionals in the field.
Just steps away, another kind of magic was unfolding in the New Media studio.
There, a student used the on-site space to produce an original piece that celebrated cultural storytelling through movement, costume, and digital design. The footage will be part of their professional portfolio, showcasing the kind of authentic, student-driven work that comes from having access to high-quality tools and a supportive learning environment.
Together, these two stories show how intentional space design—paired with meaningful mentorship and community partnerships—can open the door for possibility.
When students are given the tools to create and connect, they begin to see themselves as capable contributors to the world around them. Whether they’re wiring a wall, editing a video, or greeting a local business owner with a firm handshake, they’re building confidence, creativity, and career-ready skills that matter.
And perhaps most importantly—they’re seeing what they’re capable of.
