The sparks are flying—in all the right ways—for Wilson Talent Center’s Welding Technology students! Over the past few weeks, students in the program have participated in a series of competitive events, and their hard work has earned them major accolades.

First up was the Boilermakers Local 169 competition, where students gained hands-on experience and toured the facility. Next came the Ferris State University Welding Competition, with five WTC students participating. Elijah D. took home first place, earning a brand new welder, a $1,500 FSU scholarship, and more. Fellow students walked away with various prizes, including auto-darkening helmets, safety glasses, and torch sets—part of over $89,000 in prizes donated by industry partners.

The excitement didn’t stop there. Several students advanced in the MITES Regional Competition, with “The Grill” project taking first place in its division and “The Water Foundation” project earning sixth place. All remaining entries received honorable mentions.

These wins showcase the dedication, creativity, and real-world readiness of students in the Welding Technology program. Congratulations to all of our welding competitors and their instructors!
