The Wilson Talent Center's Auto Tech I students recently participated in Automotive Industry Day—a career exploration experience designed to connect classroom learning with real-world career opportunities.

Students spent the day visiting both dealership and independent repair locations across mid-Michigan, including:

  • A&D Auto Repair

  • LaFontaine Ford Lansing

  • Shaheen Chevrolet

  • Jerry’s Automotive

Each stop provided a different window into the industry—from spray booths and showroom insights to the latest in service technologies. Auto professionals shared their expertise, told personal career stories, and emphasized the soft skills and mindset today’s employers value most.

Standout advice from the day included:

  • Keep learning by staying curious

  • Be reliable and coachable

  • Show strong work ethic

  • Communicate effectively

  • Stay organized

  • Take initiative

In total, nearly 40 students participated in the experience, made possible through the coordination of Instructor Tom Pratt and Instructional Assistant Kevin Cain. The trip sparked enthusiasm, built confidence, and opened the door to future opportunities in Michigan’s growing transportation sector.
