Last week, Wilson Talent Center Auto Tech II students swapped their classroom for camo during an unforgettable visit to the Michigan Army National Guard’s Combined Support Maintenance Shop at Joint Force Headquarters.
Led by CW2 Jonah Walworth and SSG Aaron Hunt, the tour gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of this advanced facility. From tanks and armored trucks to electronic systems and canvas shops, students explored every corner—learning about diagnostics, repairs, quality control, and the meticulous standards required for military-grade maintenance.
Each stop highlighted the complex and critical role technicians play in keeping vehicles and equipment combat-ready. Students learned how their automotive skills could align with military needs, gaining insight into real-world protocols for safety, efficiency, and precision.
But the learning didn’t stop at the wrench. Students also heard firsthand about the wide array of career opportunities available within the Michigan Army National Guard—where their technical expertise could translate into a high-demand, meaningful career.
