A new initiative at Waverly is helping young learners bridge communication gaps by teaching all students how to interact with peers who use alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tools. Instead of leaving communication to a select few, this program brings everyone into the conversation.

In collaboration with Ingham ISD, students are learning to use visual tools like speech-generating tablets, symbol boards, and partner-assisted scanning techniques. These hands-on activities make communication accessible—and powerful—for everyone in the classroom.

The goal? To foster meaningful peer relationships, boost confidence, and create classrooms where everyone feels heard.
