Future educators from the Wilson Talent Center recently had the opportunity to showcase their creativity and instructional skills at the 3rd Annual Educators Rising Conference held at Wayne State University’s College of Education.

Educators Rising is a national initiative designed to support students who are interested in careers in education by helping them develop leadership skills, build instructional knowledge, and connect with professional educators.

Students in the Wilson Talent Center’s Educational Careers program participated in a wide range of competitive events that highlight the many skills required of effective educators.

Projects included:

  • Designing classroom bulletin boards
  • Writing and illustrating original children’s books
  • Creating teaching tools and learning activities
  • Demonstrating innovative classroom strategies

Through these events, students had the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in their coursework while gaining valuable feedback from experienced educators and professionals in the field.

The conference also featured an inspiring keynote from Jessica Care Moore, an award-winning poet, recording artist, publisher, and activist. Moore is the founder of Black Women Rock! – Daughters of Betty, a long-running empowerment and music initiative, and co-founder of the Moore Art House, a Detroit nonprofit that promotes literacy and arts education in schools and neighborhoods.

Throughout the event, students engaged with educators, mentors, and peers from across Michigan—learning about the profession while strengthening the skills needed to lead their own classrooms one day.

Wilson Talent Center students stood out for their creativity and dedication, earning awards in multiple categories.

Their success highlights the impact of hands-on career education programs that give students opportunities to explore their passions, develop professional skills, and envision their future careers.
