When students show up, everything changes.
That belief is at the heart of the Improving Attendance and Engagement Initiative—a collaborative effort led by Ingham Intermediate School District in partnership with local school districts across the region.
Together, educators are working toward a shared goal: ensuring every student has the support they need to be present, engaged, and ready to learn.
The initiative brings districts together to align their efforts through specialized workgroups focused on building common resources, creating consistent messaging for students and families, and developing tiered intervention strategies.
By working collaboratively, schools are able to share ideas, strengthen systems, and create a more unified approach to attendance.
Because attendance isn’t just about being in a seat—it’s about connection, belonging, and opportunity.
When students are consistently present, they are more likely to engage with their learning, build relationships, and access the full range of supports available to them.
And when districts come together with a shared purpose, the impact extends even further.
This initiative reflects a growing understanding that improving attendance takes more than a single solution—it requires coordinated effort, strong communication, and a commitment to meeting students where they are.
Because when students are present, they’re not just in school—they’re positioned to succeed.
