At Heartwood School, learning doesn’t just happen inside the classroom—it happens curbside, too. Last Thursday, students experienced the excitement of fire trucks, police vehicles, and more during the school’s annual Touch a Truck event.
The day provided students with the chance to explore and interact with emergency vehicles in a safe, sensory-friendly setting. From climbing into the driver's seat to meeting local heroes, students engaged in meaningful, hands-on learning that sparked smiles, curiosity, and joy.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of community partners, including local fire and police departments and Criminal Justice students from Wilson Talent Center. Their participation ensured that the experience was both educational and encouraging for all involved.
Events like these help students build confidence, make connections, and explore the world around them—one fire hat at a time.
