Prevent 2 Protect (P2P) is a five-year pilot program that establishes a research-to-practice hub, providing guidance, training, and consultation to communities across Michigan. The program focuses on cross-system collaboration, integrating expertise from mental health professionals, educators, and law enforcement to assess and support high-risk K-12 students.
High-risk adolescents identified by school Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) teams are referred to the P2P HUB team. This multidisciplinary team offers intensive support, including case management and mentoring services, to both students and their caregivers, aiming to prevent engagement in targeted violence and promote rehabilitation within the community.
Led by Dr. Alyse Folino Ley, a child and adolescent psychiatrist with expertise in trauma-related disorders, the P2P HUB team also includes professionals such as Danielle Murphy (Project Manager), Ellery Sosebee (Law Enforcement Liaison), Amanda Potter (Lead Case Manager), and Lieza Klemm (Communications Coordinator).
By fostering a sense of belonging and connecting high-risk students to their communities, Prevent 2 Protect strives to enhance student safety and mental health across Michigan.
