At Wilson Talent Center, career preparation doesn’t wait until graduation.

It starts now.

Recently, Criminal Justice students participated in a full-scale Mock Job Interview experience—one designed to feel as real as possible. With 18 professionals in the room, including deputy officers, corrections officers, a chief of police, and MSP forensic scientists, students weren’t just answering questions…

They were stepping into the expectations of the field.

Each student rotated through multiple interviewers, gaining exposure to different perspectives, communication styles, and real-world scenarios. And that’s where the impact happens.

Because mock interviews aren’t just practice—they’re preparation.

Research shows that simulated interview experiences help students build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and better understand what employers are actually looking for.

But the experience didn’t stop there.

Students also had the opportunity to attend a Job Fair and Apprenticeship Day, where they connected directly with more than 60 organizations—from local employers to regional partners like Capital Area Michigan Works!, T3, and Lansing Board of Water & Light.

For many students, this was the first time putting faces to careers.

As one student shared, “It’s really cool to be able to meet these people.”

And that simple statement says a lot.

Because career readiness isn’t just about resumes or interview answers.

It’s about exposure.
Connection.
Understanding what’s possible—and where you might fit.

By combining hands-on experiences like mock interviews with real employer interactions, Wilson Talent Center is doing more than preparing students for “someday.”

They’re helping students build confidence in what comes next.
