On February 12, the Ingham ISD Secondary Math Teachers Network came together at the Wilson Talent Center for a day centered on collaboration, innovation, and student engagement.
Hosted by Ingham ISD’s Instructional Services team, the session provided educators with meaningful opportunities to explore rich thinking tasks and discover new ways to connect mathematics to real-world careers. Teachers shared high-quality resources, examined technology tools, and engaged in thoughtful discussions around strengthening math instruction across districts.
A highlight of the day included tours of Wilson Talent Center’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs. By stepping into these hands-on learning environments, educators gained insight into how mathematics is embedded in real-world applications—from skilled trades to healthcare and technology fields. The experience reinforced how intentional career connections can make math more relevant and meaningful for students.
Participants also collaborated on common instructional challenges, brainstorming practical strategies to boost engagement and deepen conceptual understanding. Guest speaker Chrissy Schoonover of Okemos High School shared how she uses Snorkl to elevate student thinking, model problem-solving processes, and spark richer classroom conversations.
The Secondary Math Network continues to serve as a powerful space for professional growth—where educators learn from one another, refine their craft, and strengthen instruction across Ingham County.
When educators grow, students benefit. And when math instruction connects to real-world opportunity, engagement naturally follows.
