Community support can make a difference in more lives than people realize — including the four-legged ones.
Recently, staff at Ingham ISD’s Thornburn Education Center came together to support the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter through a donation drive benefiting animals across the community.
The collected donations included supplies that help provide comfort, care and enrichment for animals staying at the shelter while waiting for adoption or receiving services through community outreach programs.
Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter publicly thanked Thornburn staff for their generosity, noting that the donations would help provide “full bellies” and enrichment opportunities for shelter animals.
According to Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter, community donations play a major role in supporting programs that care for more than 5,000 animals each year throughout the Mid-Michigan region.
The shelter accepts donations ranging from pet food and toys to blankets, cleaning supplies and enrichment items used to improve the well-being of animals during their stay. Community contributions also help support outreach programs, medical care and emergency assistance for pet owners in need.
In addition to shelter operations, Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter provides community services including pet food assistance, low-cost pet supplies, vaccine clinics and outreach support for local families.
For Thornburn staff, the donation drive represented something larger than simply gathering supplies.
It reflected compassion.
Community connection.
And the understanding that helping others sometimes includes helping the animals that families love too.
Moments like these also remind students that service and kindness extend beyond school walls. Through donation drives and community partnerships, schools continue teaching lessons that cannot always be measured on a report card — empathy, generosity and caring for others.
Or in this case, caring for wagging tails and furry friends across Mid-Michigan.
