In a powerful collaboration between Ingham ISD, McLaren Greater Lansing, and the Ingham Great Start Collaborative, new Book Nooks have been launched across McLaren’s Emergency Room, Family Medicine Clinic, and Multi-Specialty Clinic. These cozy, child-friendly spaces offer high-quality books for families to enjoy—and take home—during medical visits, transforming moments of stress into moments of connection.

Through the Talking is Teaching initiative, these Book Nooks are stocked with books that nurture early literacy, bonding, and learning. Carefully selected titles were chosen not only to comfort young readers but to empower caregivers with the tools to spark language development and imagination—right in the waiting room.

And yes, the books are meant to be taken home! These gifts ensure that the power of reading continues long after a doctor visit, helping families build at-home libraries and lifelong literacy habits.

Beyond books, the Book Nooks were made possible through the generosity of community partners including NBS Commercial Interiors and Pace Howe Design, who donated warm, welcoming furniture to help create an inviting space where families can feel at ease.

This project is a shining example of what’s possible when organizations work together toward a shared goal: supporting the health, learning, and well-being of every child. Ingham ISD is proud to work alongside McLaren and all partners who helped bring this vision to life.
