When educators gather together with a shared goal, powerful things happen for students.

That spirit of collaboration was recently on display as Ingham ISD’s Student Instructional Services team hosted two regional events focused on supporting educators and strengthening learning opportunities across Mid-Michigan.

The first event, the annual Arts Education Breakfast, was held in partnership with Ingham ISD and the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. The gathering brought together educators, administrators, artists and community leaders to explore the role arts education continues to play in student growth and engagement.

According to Ingham ISD, the Mid-Michigan partnership between Ingham ISD and Wharton Center has existed since 2006 through the Kennedy Center Partners in Education program, which focuses on professional learning opportunities that help educators integrate the arts into classroom instruction.

The Arts Education Breakfast serves as an annual opportunity to showcase how schools across the region are using arts integration to deepen learning experiences and encourage creativity, communication and critical thinking in students.

At the same time, regional educators also gathered for the Ingham Area Principals and Literacy Coaches End of the Year Review and Planning event. The meeting focused on collaboration, reflection and future planning as school leaders continue working to strengthen literacy instruction throughout the region.

Ingham ISD’s literacy team supports educators and administrators from early childhood through secondary education by providing professional development and evidence-based instructional support aligned with Michigan literacy standards.

Together, the two events highlighted an important reality about education in Mid-Michigan: meaningful student success rarely happens in isolation.

It happens when educators share ideas.
When school leaders collaborate.
When arts, literacy and academics are treated as connected — not separate — parts of student development.

Whether through arts integration, literacy coaching or regional professional learning opportunities, these partnerships continue creating ripple effects that reach classrooms throughout the Ingham ISD service area.

And while students may never see the planning meetings, collaborative breakfasts or professional development sessions happening behind the scenes, they experience the impact every single day in their classrooms.
