On November 7, the campuses of Heartwood School, Wilson Talent Center, and North Star School were united by cheers, flags, and gratitude as Ingham ISD hosted its first annual Veterans Day Parade.
Local veterans rode in style—on motorcycles, in cars, and alongside loved ones—through student-lined sidewalks where classrooms held handmade signs and staff clapped in appreciation. The parade was more than a symbolic moment. It was a bridge between generations, providing students with a powerful example of community service, courage, and respect.
After the parade, veterans gathered at North Star School, where they shared their personal stories and received handwritten thank-you letters from students. These conversations brought history to life and offered students a chance to connect classroom lessons with lived experiences.
A special thank you goes to Karen Keel, North Star School teacher, whose dedication made this meaningful event possible. With her leadership, the inaugural parade is likely to become a cherished tradition.
At Ingham ISD, community engagement and student connection are cornerstones of learning. Events like this don’t just honor the past—they shape a more empathetic, informed, and united future.
