On a bright fall Friday, students in the Wilson Talent Center's Criminal Justice program stepped into the future of public safety.
Hosted by the Mid Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College’s West Campus, the immersive tour gave students a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement careers. From tactical training spaces and briefing rooms to vehicle simulations and Q&A sessions with real officers, the visit offered students a realistic preview of their potential career paths.
Students also toured facilities operated by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, deepening their understanding of the responsibilities, skills, and heart behind the badge. Beyond the physical spaces, students were inspired by firsthand stories and mentorship from professionals who walk the walk every day.
This kind of experiential learning doesn’t just spark interest—it strengthens it. The field trip reinforced classroom concepts while empowering students to imagine themselves in meaningful roles as future leaders in justice and public service.
