This October, Ingham ISD welcomed leaders from across sectors to the Early Childhood Summit—an intentional space to strengthen the systems that support children and families in our region.

Participants included representatives from early learning programs, K–12 schools, public health departments, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners. Conversations focused on shared responsibility and cross-sector alignment to ensure more equitable access to early childhood care and education.

Topics included:

  • Expanding access to affordable childcare

  • Supporting early learning programs amid 32p funding challenges

  • Aligning services for children and families more effectively across sectors

The summit served as a reaffirmation of our community’s commitment to putting families first—even as programs navigate reduced funding and increasing need. By centering children in every conversation, Ingham ISD and its partners are paving the way for more coordinated, sustainable systems that help every child thrive.

Little Explorers Returns: A Day of Discovery, Connection, and Play at Camp Tuhsmeheta Families of young children who are blind or have low vision and/or deaf or hard of hearing are invited to kick off the school year together on September 12.

The Michigan Department of Education's Resource for Blind/Low Vision and Resource for Deaf/Hard of Hearing programs are inviting families with children ages 0–5 to Little Explorers at Camp Tuhsmeheta. The event offers story time, music, crafts, movement, and hands-on activities designed to foster learning, confidence, and meaningful connections among families.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Sinas Dramis Law Firm's Lids for Kids initiative, children participating in Ingham ISD's Play & Learn Group at the Refugee Development Center will have new bicycle helmets to help them ride safely.
