Skill, creativity, and teamwork were on full display as Wilson Talent Center Culinary Arts students competed in the 2026 Michigan ProStart Invitational.

Over two days, 17 students from the program participated in the statewide event hosted by the Michigan Hospitality Foundation. The competition challenges students in a variety of hospitality and culinary disciplines, including knife skills, pasta making, restaurant management, and tabletop design.

Wilson Talent Center students delivered an impressive performance across multiple categories.

In the pasta competition, Mikala D. and Noah E. earned first place, demonstrating precision and technical skill in one of the competition’s most demanding culinary events.

Students also found success in the management category. Tamara R. and Natalie B. earned second place, while Finney C. and Maya T. placed fifth, showcasing strong business and leadership skills within the hospitality industry.

In the tabletop design competition, Ruby K. and Finney C. captured first place, highlighting creativity and attention to detail in hospitality presentation.

The achievements also open doors to additional opportunities. The second-place management team has been invited to attend the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago, while the tabletop design winners will participate in special activities at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

Events like the Michigan ProStart Invitational give students a chance to apply classroom learning in a real-world competitive environment—building confidence, refining their skills, and connecting with the broader hospitality industry.

For Wilson Talent Center students, the experience is about more than winning medals. It’s about gaining the knowledge and experience needed to pursue careers in culinary arts, hospitality management, and restaurant leadership.

And at this year’s competition, they proved they’re more than ready for the challenge.
