Wilson Talent Center Cosmetology and Manicurist students recently had the opportunity to hear firsthand from a professional working in the beauty industry.

Jason Franks, professional stylist and owner of Artisan Company, visited the program to speak with students about what it takes to build a successful career behind the chair.

During his presentation, Franks discussed “The Psychology of the Hair Industry,” emphasizing the importance of mindset, professionalism, and strong communication skills when working with clients.

For students preparing to enter the field, the conversation offered valuable insight into what happens beyond the technical side of cosmetology. While mastering cutting, styling, and nail techniques is essential, Franks explained that building trust and relationships with clients is what helps beauty professionals grow and sustain successful careers.

Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the realities of working in the industry—from getting started in a salon to developing a loyal client base.

Experiences like this help connect classroom learning with real-world perspectives, giving students a clearer picture of the expectations and opportunities within the beauty profession.

By bringing industry professionals into the classroom, Wilson Talent Center continues to help students learn not only the technical skills of their trade, but also the professional mindset needed to succeed.
