Behind every school celebration, newsletter, social media update, podcast episode, emergency communication and community story is a team of professionals working to keep families informed and connected.
Recently, Ingham Intermediate School District joined schools and organizations across the country in celebrating School Communicators Day — recognizing the dedicated professionals who help tell the story of public education with clarity, compassion and purpose.
School communicators play a critical role in building trust between schools and their communities. Their work often includes managing district websites, social media platforms, newsletters, photography, videos, podcasts, media relations, crisis communication and community engagement initiatives that help families stay informed and involved.
According to the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), effective school communication helps strengthen relationships, improve transparency and support student success by fostering stronger connections between educators, families and communities.
While much of the work happens behind the scenes — often during evenings, weekends and unexpected moments — school communicators help ensure communities receive accurate, timely and meaningful information when it matters most.
At Ingham ISD and districts across the region, communications teams continue working to highlight student achievement, staff accomplishments, educational opportunities and the everyday moments that make school communities special.
The celebration also served as a reminder that communication is more than sharing information — it is about building relationships, creating understanding and helping communities feel connected to the work happening inside schools every day.
