Behind every Band-Aid, ice pack, or comforting smile is a school nurse who’s quietly transforming student lives. At Ingham ISD, the school health team does much more than treat symptoms—they build trust, foster independence, and advocate for student well-being.

This School Nurse Day, we highlight the incredible impact of:

  • Ashley Benjamin, Nurse at Heartwood, who finds joy in building trusting relationships and supporting students through challenges.

  • Amanda Ganzhorn, Assistant Nurse at Heartwood, who reminds us that school nurses are more than bandages and thermometers—they’re vital connectors between students, teachers, and families.

  • Elise Schut, Nurse at Beekman, who cherishes the warm community and watching students grow year after year.

  • Karen Karttunen, Assistant Nurse at Beekman, who finds pure joy in hearing a nonverbal student say their name.

Each of these professionals brings care, compassion, and quiet strength to their role. They are often the calm in the chaos and the first line of care when a student is in distress.

On School Nurse Day—and every day—we say thank you. Your work truly makes a difference.
