Science met sustainability during a hands-on outdoor lesson at Wilson Talent Center, where BioScience Careers students explored campus grounds to collect biomass samples. Their mission? Investigate natural enzymes that could play a key role in making cleaner, more affordable biofuel from waste materials.
As students trekked through wooded trails and open fields, they gathered organic materials that could lead to breakthroughs in waste-to-energy research—a critical piece in the future of renewable energy.
This fall field experience highlights the value of real-world science learning, sparking curiosity and offering students a tangible connection between environmental studies and biotechnology careers.
And bonus: they got to enjoy the beautiful Michigan foliage while doing it.
