What does it take to turn an interest in criminal justice into a career? Wilson Talent Center students got a firsthand look during a full day of career exploration with local law enforcement professionals.

The day began at the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College's West Campus, where students heard from two recruits about their paths to the academy. They also observed recruits completing tactical driving practice final exams, offering a glimpse into the training and preparation involved in law enforcement.

Between visits, morning and afternoon Criminal Justice students came together for lunch, creating an opportunity to connect with classmates who share similar career interests.

The experience continued at the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, where students toured the new facility and the Ingham County Jail, learning more about the environments and responsibilities associated with careers in criminal justice.

Through conversations, observations and behind-the-scenes access, students gained a better understanding of potential career pathways and the people who pursue them.

For these future professionals, exploring what's possible meant stepping outside the classroom and into the places where their interests could become careers.

Special thanks to the Mid-Michigan Police Academy and Ingham County Sheriff's Office for opening their doors and sharing their knowledge with the next generation.
