For students pursuing careers in healthcare, seeing the work in action can be just as powerful as learning it in the classroom.
Last week, Wilson Talent Center (WTC) Medical Assisting students had the opportunity to step inside a real hospital setting, participating in an immersive experience at University of Michigan Health – Sparrow Lansing as part of the Health Sciences Partner Program.
Alongside more than 100 healthcare students from career and technical education programs across the region, WTC students explored the day-to-day realities of working in healthcare.
Throughout the experience, students toured hospital spaces, observed clinical environments, and interacted with healthcare professionals who shared insight into their roles, responsibilities, and career paths.
From patient care areas to specialized departments, students gained a deeper understanding of the many moving parts that make healthcare systems function.
They also had the chance to see firsthand how classroom learning connects directly to real-world application—bridging the gap between education and career.
For many students, moments like these help turn abstract career ideas into something tangible.
They begin to picture themselves in these roles.
They ask questions.
They make connections.
And they build confidence in the paths they’re considering.
Experiences like the Health Sciences Partner Program are a powerful reminder of the importance of partnerships between education and industry. By opening their doors, healthcare organizations provide students with meaningful exposure that can shape their futures.
