At the Beekman Center, joy isn’t just something you talk about—it’s something you build.

As spring break approached, students and staff lit up the halls—literally—during a glow dance celebration filled with music, laughter, and connection. It was a moment to pause, celebrate, and simply enjoy being together.

And just days later, that same energy carried onto the court.

During a school-wide Basketball Day, every student had the opportunity to participate—shooting, passing, playing, and proudly showing off their skills. Along the way, students were recognized not just for performance, but for effort, growth, and positive attitudes.

Because at Beekman, success looks different—and every version of it matters.

Across both events, one thing was clear: when students are given the opportunity to engage in environments designed with intention, they show up. They participate. They connect. They shine.

These moments aren’t by chance—they’re the result of thoughtful programming, dedicated staff, and spaces that prioritize accessibility, dignity, and inclusion.

And that’s exactly what the upcoming Ingham ISD Special Education Bond aims to expand.

If approved by voters on May 5, the bond would support updates and improvements to facilities like Beekman—creating more spaces where students can safely learn, move, and grow. The proposal focuses on enhancing learning environments, upgrading critical infrastructure, and ensuring students of all abilities have access to spaces that meet their needs.

Because what happens in these spaces matters.

From glow sticks to basketball hoops, it’s never just about the activity—it’s about what those experiences unlock in students.

Confidence. Connection. Joy.

And a reminder that when the environment is right, everything else has a chance to follow.
