As another school year came to a close, Heartwood School welcomed families, students, and staff outside for something that felt a lot like summer itself: sunshine, laughter, bubbles, bounce houses, and time spent together.
Heartwood's annual Family Picnic brought the school community together to celebrate the end of the year and recognize the relationships that help students thrive long after the final bell rings.
Throughout the afternoon, students explored games and activities, families connected with one another, and staff members enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate alongside the students they support every day.
For many schools, a family event is simply a fun tradition. At Heartwood, it serves as a reminder of something much bigger.
Heartwood School serves students from across the Ingham ISD service area who receive specialized educational programming and support. Staff work closely with local school districts and families to provide individualized services designed to help each student reach their greatest potential.
That partnership between families, educators, support staff, therapists, and community members was visible everywhere throughout the event.
Parents chatted with teachers. Students proudly introduced family members to friends and staff. Laughter echoed across the playground as bubbles floated overhead and children raced between activities.
While the picnic marked the beginning of summer break, it also celebrated the strong relationships that make Heartwood such a special place.
Because at Heartwood, success isn't built by one person or one program.
It takes a village.
And on a beautiful June afternoon, that village came together to celebrate.
