Some school memories are built inside classrooms.

Others are built while holding popcorn at a baseball game, cheering from the stands and taking selfies with classmates and mascots at the ballpark.

Recently, students from the Beekman Center enjoyed one of those unforgettable moments during a Lansing Lugnuts School Day at Jackson® Field™.

From meeting mascots to enjoying the atmosphere of a live baseball game, the experience gave students an opportunity to spend time together outside the traditional classroom setting while creating joyful memories alongside peers and staff members.

The Lansing Lugnuts’ Grand Slam School Days program has become a longtime tradition for schools throughout Mid-Michigan, offering daytime games specifically designed for students and educators. According to the Lansing Lugnuts, the events are intended to provide safe, engaging and educational field trip opportunities that students can look forward to year after year.

The program combines the excitement of baseball with interactive learning opportunities and community engagement throughout the stadium experience. The Lugnuts report that more than 15,000 students and educators attended Grand Slam School Day events during the 2025 season alone.

For students at the Beekman Center, however, the day was about more than statistics or schedules.

It was about belonging.
Connection.
And the simple joy of experiencing something special together.

Field trips and community experiences can play an important role in student development, helping build confidence, social interaction and positive shared experiences outside of routine school environments.

And sometimes, the moments students remember most are the ones that feel wonderfully ordinary:
laughing with friends, waving at mascots, singing during inning breaks and spending a spring afternoon at the ballpark.

For the Beekman Center students who attended, it was clearly a day worth remembering.
